Welcome to the 2nd Grade webpage !
Classroom Rules
1. Listen when others are talking.
2. Follow directions.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Work quietly and do not disturb others.
5. Show respect for school and personal property.
6. Work and play in a safe manner.
Classroom Management
1. Positive reinforcement is used throughout the day and is given orally to individual students that are presenting good behavior like: raising their hand, working quietly, desk or books are prepared for learning, etc. This encourages others to follow the same behavior.
2. Individual behavior is rewarded with our new "bean" system. Each student has a bag attached to their desk. The students start the day with three "free" colored beans. Throughout the day, as the student exhibits good behavior, he or she is given more colored beans. If he or she is presenting undesirable behavior they will have a bean removed. At the end of the day, students with 15 or more colored beans will get the prize of the day. This prize could be one of the following: sit by your friend at lunch day, no DOL day, get a piece of candy day, no flashcard day, etc. If you lose all of your beans and become in the "negative" you will receive a red bean. Each red bean=1 minute in at recess.
3. Classroom behavior as a WHOLE will also be rewarded for good line up procedures. If the class lines up quietly, in a straight line with minimal reminders, the class will receive a star. Once the class has 5 stars they will receive 5 minutes of extra recess.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every child of every race, religion, and economic background should have the opportunity to learn. They should be able to learn in a safe and friendly environment with teachers who have dedicated their lives to teach. I believe that children deserve to be taught by someone who will respect each and every student, with their diverse needs in mind, and who will go that extra mile to make that idea click. If I could change or help the life of one child, then I have made a difference.
I believe that being a teacher is a huge responsibility that must be taken very seriously. It is our responsibility to not only teach the children of the future but to lead them in the right direction. Teach them not only academics, but about morals and values. Teach them not only how to behave in the classroom, but how to behave in the community as well. Teach them not only the things needed to pass a certain grade, but how they will use that knowledge in the future.
I believe that an effective teacher is a reflective teacher. One that is willing to make changes and be flexible to meet the student's needs. An effective teacher keeps current with new methods and strategies. An effective teacher makes subjects fun and exciting, where the student wants to learn.
I believe that being a great teacher will come only after years of experience. I believe that it will have its share of ups and downs, but the rewards will outweigh the bad. I believe that being a teacher is one of the most wonderful and fulfilling careers that one could ask for and with that I am proud to be part of this dignified profession.
